Our Jaques Reproduction collection celebrates some of the most important chess designs ever created. Inspired by the famous nineteenth-century Staunton patterns, these chessmen faithfully recreate the elegance, balance and visual character that made the original Jaques designs legendary amongst collectors and players.
From early 1849-style patterns through to later Victorian examples, each set is created to honour the craftsmanship and historical significance of the originals whilst offering the quality expected from a modern luxury chess set.
To preserve the proportions and distinctive character of historic knight designs, the initial knight profile is formed using traditional pantograph duplication from a master pattern.
Each knight is then individually refined, detailed, sanded and hand-finished by skilled craftsmen before being weighted, baize felted and matched into complete sets.
